Fear of Infidelity

A study conducted by the University of Western Australia involving 34 men and 34 women found that 62%of the women correctly identified the unfaithful participants, while only 23% of the men did so, with the men identifying a large majority of the women as the most attractive—a perception that was largely inaccurate.

Leigh Simmons, one of the authors of this study, which was published in the journal *Biology Letters*, argues that one of the causes of infidelity may be that most males—including those of the human species—are less selective when choosing a partner, since they have less to lose than females, and therefore women.

In short, men with unfaithful partners might end up raising another man’s children, while women with unfaithful partners would face many more problems and dangers, finding themselves in a situation where they could lose their maternal resources and so on.
