Comic Con, do you want to draw an escort?
June 30, 2026Hey! Have you seen what’s coming up next? That’s right, you guessed it—it’s Barcelona Games World 2018, back for a new edition, and yes, there’s big news: this year, the video game expo is changing both its dates and its location. For its 2018 edition, Barcelona Games World will be held from November 29 to December 2, 2018, and will move to Hall 2 of the Gran Vía, and well… I bet you can’t guess! The event will expand its lineup to include mobile gaming and will feature the leading video game brands, and it will once again host competitions in ESports and will strengthen its role as a must-attend event for industry professionals. And once again, we have a surprise for you (we just can’t stop bringing you good news!). This year at the event, it won’t just be the little ones who get to have fun with video games (HEY! Don’t be discouraged—if you’re a professional gamer and of legal age, this is for you, too)—but you’ll also have the sexiest video game princesses of all time at your disposal, ready to cater to your needs and, of course, your budget. For you, dad, uncle, or older brother, who’s tired of shuttling the kid back and forth, you also deserve to be pampered ;)…
For the first time, in collaboration with Mobile World Capital Barcelona, the trade show will explore the field of mobile gaming, one of the fastest-growing segments in recent years. The goal is to create an event that reflects the significance of the video game sector in Barcelona—both within the industry itself and in universities and cutting-edge technology markets. To this end , Fira de Barcelona will promote Games Pro , a program for professionals that will feature networking and training activities. Within this framework, numerous meetings will be held between developers, publishers, and international investors, all with the goal of driving a vast number of new projects forward. The business accelerator Gamebcn will collaborate in the internationalization of this initiative through an international network of incubators.
Last year, 480 interviews were conducted with attending developers and the 35 participating publishers and investors (yes, it’s crazy, but the biggest successes often come from the craziest ideas). Barcelona Games World will once again feature none other than Retro Barcelona—that leading vintage gaming event—with the sole goal of providing fans with a huge space to rediscover the most iconic consoles and titles from the ’80s and ’90s (Maybe this way you can relive your younger days, YOU RASCAL!). Retro Barcelona will not only feature a conference area, but will also have a gaming zone fully open to the public with video game consoles, computers, and arcade machines (pinball and arcade games), as well as a large exhibition area showcasing classic 8-bit systems such as Amiga, Amstrad, Atari, Commodore, MSX, and Spectrum (they say the dustier it is, the better the memory), and a very, very, VERY large buying and selling area where collectors and enthusiasts can find classic consoles and video games for sale.
Considering that, according to the organization, this change in dates is intended to complement the holiday season, offering video game fans the opportunity to enjoy all the major titles before their commercial release (No joke—we’re seriously talking about EVERY SINGLE TITLE!)—it would, of course, be disrespectful not to mention that Barcelona Games World will once again feature the most spectacular experiences in the gaming universe. Among these, the visits from special guests and activities such as the horror tunnel, the Games&Symphony orchestra concert, and the cosplay contest stand out in particular. In addition, more and more young people are looking to break into the video game industry and are pursuing studies related to programming or development. But these aren’t the only roles in demand by this dynamic, ever-growing industry—you’ll be able to learn firsthand about educational opportunities in the video game sector, as well as the various career paths and job prospects. Give yourself the chance to attend this unique event and take the opportunity to break out of your routine a bit—let’s face it, we know it can get pretty tedious. We’ll be waiting for you at Fira de Barcelona on Gran Via—don’t miss it!
